I have been very pleased to be able to attend the
British New Testament Conference, this year in
Nottingham. It was the first time for me and it was great to meet all these scholars, chatting, giving some papers, eating together in a good atmosphere. Three things especially impressed me: humour, humility and technicality. In each paper, humour was present one way or another; and it was good! The scholars giving paper or intervening were challenged by others: with humility, they were receiving well the comments. Some of the papers were very technical and it makes me recall that we are all working on very different issues which all require an amount of technicality. May God help us to have humour and humility and to be technical in our own research, as well as an intellectual honesty.
J'ai été très heureux de pouvoir assister à la rencontre annuelle de la Société Britannique du Nouveau Testament qui a eu lieu cette année à Nottingham. C'était une première pour moi et ce fut une bonne expérience de rencontrer tous ces chercheurs, réunis pour discuter, donner une conférence ou manger ensemble dans une bonne ambiance. Trois choses m'ont particulièrement marqué : l'humour, l'humilité et la technicité. Pour chaque conférence, l'humour était présent d'une manière ou d'une autre et ce fut très agréable. Les chercheurs donnant leur conférence ou intervenant ici et là ont eu leur idées mises en question : ils ont reçus les critiques avec humilité. Certaines conférences ont été très techniques et cela m'a rappelé que nous travaillons tous sur des sujets très différents qui requièrent tous une certaine quantité de technicité. Que Dieu nous vienne en aide pour avoir de l'humour, de l'humilité et de la technicité dans notre propre recherche, en même temps que l'honnêteté intellectuelle.
